REVEALED: One Direction star Liam Payne’s surprising backstage requests at the controversial Everest horse race

It’s hardly what you would expect from a rock star, but ahead of his performance at the TAB Everest on Saturday, Liam Payne’s backstage rider is decidedly low-key.

The 25-year-old singer jetted into Sydney on Friday ahead of the controversial racing event, for which he is the headlining act.

And after spending years in the world’s biggest boy band, One Direction, there was surprisingly not a single diva demand in sight.

Instead of the usual requests for expensive food, alcohol and luxury facilities, Liam has instead asked for simple healthy snacks backstage.

Included on his rider are 24 bottles of ‘still mineral water’, as well as ‘assorted fresh juices or smoothies’.

He has also requested four ‘Moju or fresh ginger shots’ and two ‘veggie protein power packets’.

In addition, the Strip That Down singer has asked for four ‘protein bars’.

He has also requested platters of fresh fruit, including ‘bananas, mango, pineapple, grapes, mixed berries’, and fresh vegetables, including ‘carrot, cucumber, celery’ and hummus dip.

It’s quite a departure from the rider Liam and his bandmates would issue while performing with One Direction.

According to a 2015 report by The Smoking Gun, the British boyband would demand a dedicated room backstage for ‘personal training’ as well as a ping pong table.

Caterers were also asked to ‘find creative ways to help prevent food from drying out while it is being served’.

‘Fame made me a little bit nuts and distracted me a lot from the person I was,’ Liam told #Legend in May, reflecting on his heady days in One Direction.

‘I put on a front that wasn’t really me. But now that I’ve had my time away, you slowly, naturally become the person you were before you started, but with a lot more knowledge. So I feel a lot more myself than I ever did before.’
